History

It was designed by the architectural firm The Walter Fedy Partnership which was awarded the Structural Design Award in 2010 from the Ontario Masonry Design Awards for the design of Mackenzie King Village. The University of Waterloo held a sod turning ceremony on April 10, 2000 for Mackenzie King Village which was a part of a $25-million project to expand and renew campus accommodation for students. It was built as an extension of the Village housing complex, to support the increasing on-campus housing demand. It is located between Village I and Ron Eydt Village, it is the third village residence located on the main campus. It houses about 320 first-year students. It was the first newly constructed residence at the University of Waterloo in over 30 years which was opened to students in the fall of 2001 although the official opening ceremony took place on June 4, 2002.

Mackenzie King Village is also popular amongst students because it is one of the residences that provide air conditioning. There are 2 study rooms on every floor and another study space in the region connecting the two wings. There are 2 emergency fire exits on every floor of both the wings and a common lounge for recreational purposes. Adjacent to the common lounge is the don's apartment where an upper year student lives for supervising on a daily basis and for conducting group events for his/her respective floor. Every year there are 8 upper year students selected as dons for Mackenzie King Village. They are also the people in charge of Monthly inspections to ensure an acceptable level of cleanliness is met in each of the suites.

The main floor of the building has the front desk which also has provision for students printing needs. There is also a common space for playing pool and table tennis. There are also a few computers for the students to use. Further across this space are the laundry room for students and a study room where extra help sessions are held. Further down is the stair up to the rooftop of Mackenzie King Village where students can hold barbecues and other similar outdoor events. Out from the rooftop is the breezeway which can also be reached through the emergency exits. Every Saturday a grocery shuttle arrives at the breezeway for convenient carriage of groceries from the supermarket back to the residence. Below the rooftop there is a covered space for students to keep their bicycles. All around Mackenzie King Village there is ample space for car parking.
